About The Position

The Party & Event Host plans, coordinates, and facilitates events—including children’s birthday parties and craft classes—at a Michaels store. The role creates a fun, creative, and stress-free experience for guests of all ages, demonstrates and instructs craft projects, and manages event details before, during, and after each event. The host also provides customer service and checkout assistance, supports store operations and merchandise tasks, and helps maintain store cleanliness, safety, and recovery standards. The position includes communicating with clients and store team members, responding to feedback, handling event administration, and preparing backup plans as needed. The host also supports customer programs and omnichannel services, participates in stocking and store maintenance processes, and is cross-trained in Custom Framing sales and production. Work takes place in a public retail store, with some stock areas potentially not climate controlled and occasional outdoor duties. Work hours include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Requirements

Retail and/or customer service experience is required.
Experience working with children and children’s events is required.
Excellent people skills.
Ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with guests of all ages and coworkers.

Ability to remain standing for long periods and move throughout the store.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate multiple events, including children’s birthday parties and craft classes or other events.
Create a fun and creative environment for guests of all ages.
Demonstrate and teach craft projects, perform face painting, and lead other activities.
Facilitate party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons according to company standards.
Communicate event details with clients and store team members.
Answer emails, make phone calls, complete paperwork, and handle other event administration as needed.
Adapt events to client feedback and needs, create backup or emergency plans, and ensure client satisfaction.
Set up, break down, and clean event areas while following cleanliness and safety standards.
Help customers locate products and find solutions, and provide a fast, friendly checkout experience.
Promote the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, complete enrollments, and educate customers about the Voice of Customer survey.
Assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS) processes.
Participate in truck unloading, stocking, planogram processes, Store in Stock Optimization (SISO), and AD set duties as assigned.
Complete merchandise recovery and maintenance and support shrink and safety programs.
Follow standard operating procedures, company programs, policies, and standards to support compliance with applicable laws and requirements.
Interact with others respectfully and positively, promote company vision and values, and serve as a role model for team members.
Cross-train in Custom Framing sales and production.
Participate in daily store cleanliness activities, including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and restroom maintenance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
