About The Position

The Parts Counterperson sells automotive parts at retail to available customers over the counter, through the service shop, and by phone. The role assists customers and service technicians in identifying parts, checking availability, and placing orders, while supporting sales, inventory replenishment, and accurate processing of transactions. The position also maintains an organized counter area and follows company safety procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of experience in an automotive parts department.
One year of sales experience.
Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate information clearly.
Professional personal appearance and willingness to wear a dealership uniform.
Strong customer service skills and ability to manage multiple customers simultaneously.
Authorization to work in the USA.
Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

Assist walk-in customers in selecting parts, suggest companion requirements, promote specials, and provide exposure to the full product line.
Pull purchases from stock, determine part availability, and submit emergency orders as requested.
Answer phone calls, provide price quotes and information, and assist outside sales representatives with orders.
Prepare orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pickup.
Verify will-call and back-order files weekly; return items to vendors or stock as appropriate and contact assigned accounts by phone.
Help service technicians select parts for repairs and open repair-order envelopes for new orders.
Order out-of-stock parts after consulting Shop Foremen to confirm the parts will be used upon receipt or that the customer will return for repairs.
Process parts charges, returns, and credits with proper documentation and approvals, and collect customer payments, including cash-account, credit-card, and tax-exempt transactions.
Replenish assigned inventory daily and keep counter areas clean and organized.
Advise the Parts Manager of departmental concerns.
Follow company safety policies and procedures and immediately report accidents to a manager or supervisor.
