About The Position

The Parts Counterperson sells parts at retail to available customers over the counter, through the shop, or by phone. The role serves walk-in and phone customers, supports service technicians and outside sales representatives, manages parts orders and inventory, processes charges and returns, and maintains an organized and safe work area.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of experience in an automotive parts department.
One year of sales experience.
Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate information clearly.
Professional personal appearance and willingness to wear a dealership uniform.
Strong customer service skills and ability to manage multiple customers simultaneously.
Authorization to work in the USA.
Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

Assist walk-in customers in selecting required parts, suggest companion requirements, offer specials, and ensure exposure to the full product line.
Pull purchases from stock, determine availability, and submit emergency orders as requested by customers.
Answer phone calls, provide price quotes and information, and assist outside sales representatives with their orders.
Set up orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick up.
Verify “will call” and “back order” files weekly; return items to vendors or stock as appropriate and solicit assigned accounts by phone.
Assist service technicians in selecting parts needed for repairs and open repair order envelopes for new orders.
Order parts not in stock after discussing with Shop Foremen to ensure parts will be used upon receipt or customers will return for repairs.
Process parts charges, returns, and credits, ensuring proper documentation and approvals, and collect customer payments, including cash accounts, credit cards, and tax-exempt sales.
Replenish assigned inventory daily and maintain clean, organized counter areas; advise the Parts Manager of departmental concerns.
Follow company safety policies and procedures and immediately report accidents to a manager or supervisor.
