About The Position

The Outreach Team Lead supervises Support Coordinators serving Avalon adult clients in Avalon Housing units, with private landlords, and in Ann Arbor Housing Commission properties. The role also oversees Avalon’s FUSE-HUD Bonus Grant and Rapid Rehousing program, working closely with Avalon’s Property Management Team, the Ann Arbor Housing Commission, and private landlords. It provides vision, clinical oversight, and day-to-day operational leadership for the program, including staff supervision and training. The position is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and is full-time, 40 hours per week, salary, and non-exempt. Some evening and weekend flexibility is required, along with participation in an on-call rotation. Starting wage is $58,500.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least two years of experience working with people who are homeless, people with mental illness, chronic health conditions, addiction disorders, or similar populations.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to support and motivate staff in challenging work.
• Excellent verbal and written organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage data collection and analysis effectively and efficiently, including required paperwork.
• Highly positive and enthusiastic attitude and strong commitment to helping people in need.
• Ability to work effectively and non-judgmentally with diverse populations.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
• Ability to sit for long periods, drive a vehicle with passengers, communicate by talking and hearing, lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds, and operate computer hardware systems.

Nice To Haves

• MSW or a relevant master’s degree in social or behavioral science or a relevant field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate commitment to serving people who are difficult to engage in traditional programs, using harm-reduction and trauma-informed care experience.
• Represent Avalon Housing and provide leadership at community-based housing committees, Continuum of Care, and Coordinated Entry meetings.
• Provide program vision, clinical oversight, and day-to-day operational leadership, including direct supervision and team training.
• Oversee the FUSE-HUD and Rapid Re-Housing grant programs and coordinate rental assistance payments in compliance with MSHDA, HUD, and fiduciary guidelines.
• Maintain positive partnerships with private landlords throughout Washtenaw County through prompt communication, tenant mediation, outreach, and engagement.
• Supervise staff and interns providing ongoing active outreach to tenants and clients.
• Supervise comprehensive tenant assessments and action plans to achieve goals.
• Supervise ongoing client case management, including maintenance of clinical records and progress notes.
• Collaborate with Property Management on eviction prevention efforts.
• Oversee crisis intervention as needed.
• Build community and peer support among tenants, including participation in community programming activities.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
• Assist tenants as needed with activities of daily living, including transportation, housekeeping, meal preparation, medication, shopping, and laundry, or other hands-on assistance.
