Optometric Technician - Medical Assistant

About The Position

The optometric technician helps keep patient flow efficient by assisting the optometrist with pre-screenings and testing before the doctor’s examination. The position conducts vision tests that help the optometrist provide patient care. No optical experience or certification is required; training is provided. The role also supports high-quality patient care, maintains the doctor’s office and pretest room, performs patient paperwork and testing, and helps ensure equipment is maintained. The stores are closed every Sunday.

Previous retail or optical experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Ensure high-quality patient care.
Maintain a professional atmosphere and appearance in the doctor’s office and pretest room.
Understand ocular terminology, diseases, and abbreviations.
Explain preliminary examinations to patients.
Complete necessary paperwork and perform testing on patients before the doctor’s examination.
Promote visual field testing and retinal screenings to eligible patients.
Perform exam pre-screening.
Carefully review prescriptions and/or patient information and identify special needs; consult with the optician, Doctor, or Retail Management when necessary.
Ensure the Doctor’s and pre-test equipment are properly maintained.
