About The Position

The Optometric Technician I helps ensure patients receive quality care and supports the Optometrist in delivering a positive patient experience. Under the guidance of the optometrist or location manager, the technician assists with patient care and clinic operations. Duties may change at any time and are not limited to those listed in the job description.

High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

At least 1 year of experience.
Previous experience as an Optometric Technician.
Previous experience with electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

Pre-screen patients before they see the optometrist, including administering diagnostic tests.
Gather patients’ medical histories.
Communicate with doctors, staff, and patients.
Answer phone calls, greet patients, and schedule appointments.
Educate patients about insurance coverage and vision benefits.
Train patients on proper contact lens use and care.
Obtain insurance authorizations and verify benefits.
Accurately post charges for exam fees, co-pays, and products sold.
Assist other team members as needed to achieve individual and team goals.
Accurately and thoroughly document optometry exams and procedures as the doctor performs them, including diagnoses, symptoms, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions as directed by the doctor.
Coordinate patient scheduling and monitor patient flow throughout the office, communicating delays appropriately.
