About The Position

The School of Optometry is seeking a part-time registered optician to provide high-quality training and education to students in its optical shop, 10 Optical. This onsite position is scheduled for 27 hours per week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during standard hours. The optician may be asked to cover 10 Optical when the manager is on vacation or away from campus.

Requirements

• Current Massachusetts Dispensing Optician License.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in optical management.
• Supervisory experience.
• Prior experience with third-party payers and vision care plans, including VSP, Eyemed, Spectera, and MassHealth.
• Experience with electronic health records, inventory management systems, and ordering platforms.
• Excellent customer service abilities.
• Ability to sustain a flexible work schedule on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during standard hours.
• Ability to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.

Nice To Haves

• Teaching and/or training experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide appropriate patient education regarding lens and frame options.
• Ensure timely processing of daily patient orders.
• Verify insurance or vision care coverage for optical products and services.
• Oversee collection of patient payments, submission of accurate billing information, and posting of charges and payments in the system.
• Assist with activities of student interns when needed.
• Assist with instruction of laboratory functions, including use of edging equipment.
• Keep current details on vision care plans and other third-party payers.
• Help with inventory management and control.
• Cover 10 Optical when the manager is on vacation or away from campus, if asked.
