About The Position

An Optical Technician works to deliver a world-class Total Patient Experience, maximize retail sales, and support patients’ medical needs. The role involves dispensing and fitting glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists, and connecting patients’ needs with available goods and services. The position also requires helping patients choose frames and lenses, taking precise optical measurements, dispensing orders, and repairing or adjusting frames.

Requirements

At least one year in a role interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Favorable background check result as required by state.
Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 pounds.
Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands.
Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

Previous medical office experience.
Previous ophthalmic experience.
ABO certification.
NCLE certification.

Responsibilities

Embrace and execute the Total Patient Experience, building relationships with patients while providing medical support.
Determine patients’ wants and needs and sell products and services to exceed their expectations.
Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
Educate patients and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
Accurately collect measurements including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment height, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust patient frames.
Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using the current process.
