About The Position

An Optical Technician achieves a world-class Total Patient Experience by maximizing retail sales while supporting patients’ medical needs. The role involves dispensing and fitting glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, connecting patients’ needs with the goods and services offered, and building relationships through medical support and service.

Requirements

At least one year of experience in a position interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Favorable result on a background check as required by state.
Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 pounds.
Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands.
Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

Previous medical office experience.
Previous ophthalmic experience.
ABO certification.
NCLE certification.

Responsibilities

Embrace and execute the Total Patient Experience to build relationships with patients while delivering medical support.
Determine patient wants and needs and sell to exceed their expectations.
Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
Educate patients and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
Accurately collect measurements including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust frames.
Dispense glasses and/or contact lens orders using the current process.
