About The Position

An Optical Technician achieves a world-class Total Patient Experience by maximizing retail sales while supporting patients’ medical needs. The role involves dispensing and fitting glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists, and connecting patients’ needs to the goods and services offered.

Requirements

At least one year in a position interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Favorable background check as required by state.
Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands; ability to perform the stated physical activities and lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 pounds.
Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.
ABO and NCLE certifications preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Build relationships with patients and deliver medical support while executing the Total Patient Experience.
Determine patient wants and needs and sell products and services to exceed expectations.
Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
Educate patients and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
Accurately collect measurements including bridge, eye size, temple length, seg heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust patient frames.
Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using current processes.
