About The Position

An Optical Technician works to deliver a world-class Total Patient Experience, maximize retail sales, and support patients’ medical needs. The role dispenses and fits glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists, connecting patients’ needs with available goods and services. The position combines patient support, product recommendations, optical measurements, dispensing, and frame repair and adjustment.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in a position interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Favorable background check result as required by state.
• Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 pounds; strong fine motor skills and full use of hands; and visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

• Previous medical office experience.
• Previous ophthalmic experience.
• ABO certification.
• NCLE certification.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the Total Patient Experience and build relationships with patients while providing medical support.
• Determine patients’ wants and needs and sell products and services to exceed their expectations.
• Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
• Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
• Educate patients and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit their needs.
• Collect optical measurements, including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
• Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust frames.
• Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using the current process.
