About The Position

An Optical Technician achieves a world-class Total Patient Experience, maximizes retail sales, and supports patients’ medical needs. The role dispenses and fits glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, connecting patients’ needs with the goods and services offered. The position involves helping patients choose frames and lenses, taking optical measurements, dispensing orders, and repairing or adjusting frames.

Requirements

• At least 1 year in a position interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Favorable result on a background check as required by state.
• Ability to provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 lbs; strong fine motor skills and full use of hands; and visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

• Previous medical office experience.
• Previous ophthalmic experience.
• ABO certification.
• NCLE certification.

Responsibilities

• Embrace and execute the Total Patient Experience by building relationships with patients and delivering medical support.
• Determine patients’ wants and needs and sell to exceed their expectations.
• Help patients select frames based on style and color, coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
• Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
• Educate patients and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
• Accurately collect optical measurements, including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
• Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust patient frames.
• Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using the current process.
