PT Optical Sales Associate - Sturgeon Bay
About The Position
Shopko Optical is seeking a part-time Optical Sales Associate in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The role provides customer and patient service in selecting, ordering, and dispensing eyewear; completing pre-screening activities before patient exams; preparing work orders for the Optical Lab; processing medical billing information; and maintaining frame inventory. On-the-job training is provided, and teammates can pursue certification opportunities. The role combines eyewear sales and dispensing with operational responsibilities. Associates help patients choose appropriate frames and lenses, support contact lens instruction, assist the Optometrist with case histories and screenings, and help maintain accurate billing, claims, and inventory.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Maintain a license as required by the state.
- Complete Shopko OCE Certification requirements and calendar modules to become certified.
- Handle multiple customer interactions and phone calls at a time.
- Work with patient eyewear needs, including analyzing prescriptions, repairs and adjustments, and lifestyle dispensing.
- Effectively communicate at all organizational levels through written and two-way verbal communication.
- Read and write at a high school graduate level.
- Sit or stand for extended periods.
- Operate office equipment such as a personal computer, telephone, fax machine, and copier.
- Lift 10 to 20 pounds.
- Meet visual requirements for near and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
- Demonstrate manual and finger dexterity, hand and arm steadiness, grip, and hand-eye coordination.
- Operate a cash register, optical equipment, and tools.
- Work normal or extended office hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends, as needed to meet deadlines.
- Travel independently to support company objectives and personal development.

Responsibilities
- Provide customer and patient service according to company and Optical Center standards.
- Analyze patients’ eyewear needs and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames.
- Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
- Accurately and professionally order and dispense eyewear.
- Assist patients with frame repairs and adjustments.
- Show patients how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses.
- Assist the Optometrist with case histories and screenings.
- Maintain knowledge of third-party plans and claims.
- Explain promotions and special lens offerings.
- Balance accounts.
- Prepare work orders with specific instructions for the Optical Lab.
- Process medical billing information.
- Ensure proper merchandising of frame inventory.
- Complete pre-screening activities before patient exams.
