About The Position

Penske Logistics is seeking an Operations Supervisor to lead transportation and logistics activities at a single location. The supervisor directs staff and hourly associates to ensure customer requirements are met while achieving company goals and objectives. The role provides operational leadership for daily work, including driver deliveries, trailer loading and unloading, and customer service, while balancing service and cost objectives. The Operations Supervisor directly oversees people, systems, customer needs, equipment, and workforce and equipment scheduling. The role includes performance management of direct reports, corrective-action and disciplinary decisions up to the written-warning level, participation in hiring, and customer meetings as needed. Supervisors are bonus eligible based on individual and location performance. The scheduled shift is Sunday through Thursday, 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Flexibility may be needed when short staffed or during peak season, based on business needs. The position may require travel as necessary and requires work at the specified location and schedule.

Ownership and responsibility for running operations with a sense of urgency.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule and specified location, complete a Penske employment application, and undergo a background investigation and drug screening.

Responsibilities

Ensure supervisors and associates are trained, competent, and understand how their work supports customer business objectives.
Communicate specific and measurable performance standards.
Interview hourly associates and recommend candidates for hire.
Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards; coach and counsel associates.
Motivate and engage associates by recognizing team accomplishments.
Supervise logistics operations, including customer service, freight loading and unloading, dispatch, documentation, and procedure control.
Conduct team meetings and assist with training new associates.
Evaluate and recommend work-method changes to improve dispatch productivity.
Provide relief coverage for operational duties when associates are absent or using time off.
Maintain working knowledge of site operating systems to ensure compliance and resolve exceptions.
Complete required records and reports accurately and on time.
Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, including tracking MPG, returns, and damages.
Manage associate working hours and activities to minimize overtime and meet or exceed productivity targets.
Align daily management and associate activities with the location safety strategy; communicate, train, provide feedback, and direct associates toward safe performance.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures, and conduct safety observations.
Understand customer goals and objectives and work to meet or exceed expectations; communicate the company's commitment to helping customers meet their objectives.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Plan work assignments to use fleet equipment effectively and ensure associates understand safe and efficient equipment operation.
Work with vendors to maintain equipment and with Penske Truck Leasing to complete scheduled preventive maintenance.
Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
