About The Position

The Nursing Assistant II (Emergency Department Technician) works within the multidisciplinary team caring for Emergency Department patients under the direction and supervision of the ED Registered Nurse. The Emergency Department provides 24-hour emergency care to patients needing urgent medical attention for severe injuries or illness. The role supports patient care and department flow, maintains an efficient work area, and performs specimen-related duties in accordance with laboratory policies and approved testing standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Current Kentucky Nurse Aide Certification, or successful completion of first-year clinical classes in nursing school and validation of a clinical consistent with level of education.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; applicants who are not already certified must obtain it within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Previous laboratory or customer service experience.
Data entry and computer experience and/or phlebotomy or point-of-care testing experience.

Responsibilities

Communicate and coordinate patient care and department flow.
Maintain a working knowledge of appropriate computer functions and systems for assigned duties.
Maintain the work area to support efficient operation and workflow.
Collect, process, transport, and analyze specimens according to approved testing standards and laboratory policies and procedures.
Demonstrate proficiency in patient care according to hospital policies and procedures.
Care for ED patients as part of the multidisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of the ED Registered Nurse.
