About The Position

The New Graduate RN Residency is for newly licensed nurses entering a Medical Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)/Step Down unit. The IMCU cares for medically complex cardiac, medical, pulmonary, and renal patients, including patients with congestive heart failure requiring intensive fluid management and diuresis. Care includes close monitoring, advanced therapies, and frequent transfers between the ICU, medical-surgical floors, the Emergency Department, and procedural areas. The residency supports the transition from nursing school to professional practice through structured education, hands-on clinical experience, preceptorship, and ongoing support during orientation and the transition-to-practice period. The program incorporates the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies. After four months of training, nurses assume a position on a Step Down unit. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and families across the health care continuum. Nurses are accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes, following the nursing department’s model of care and established policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice. The position reports to the Unit Nurse Director. The role is intended for nurses who graduated from nursing school within the 12 months before their hire date. The posting describes a March 2027 expected start date and a 36-hour schedule with day/night rotations and weekends. The units require a two-year commitment after investing in the new graduate RN. New graduates in other BMC practice areas are expected to remain in their roles for at least one year after completing orientation; the posting also specifies a minimum two-year commitment for new graduates in critical care. Applicants must apply only to the Step Down New Grad program and submit a resume and letter of intent together as one PDF with their online application.
