About The Position

The New Graduate Nurse Residency Program at Boston Medical Center supports newly licensed nurses in transitioning to professional practice. The program incorporates the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies and hires new graduate nurses in cohorts. Following four months of training, nurses assume positions on a Step Down unit. The posting states that Step Down nurses are expected to make a two-year commitment after the investment in the new graduate RN. The role is for nurses who graduated from nursing school within the 12 months before their hire date. It encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and families across the health care continuum. The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient-care outcomes, using the nursing department’s model of care and following established policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice. The position reports to the Unit Nurse Director. The posting also describes a Medical Cardiac IMCU residency environment caring for complex cardiac, medical, pulmonary, and renal patients. The unit provides exposure to intermediate-level monitoring, complex fluid management and diuresis, cardiac drips, mechanical ventilation, tracheostomies, chest tubes and pericardial drains, post-procedural cardiac care, and transfers between the ICU and medical-surgical floors. Residents receive structured education, hands-on clinical experience, preceptorship, and ongoing support during orientation and the transition-to-practice period. Applicants must apply to the Step Down New Grad program and submit a resume and letter of intent together as one PDF. The posting says candidates who also apply to experienced-nurse RN positions will not be considered. Active BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers is required, and a flu vaccine is required before starting. Registration and current RN licensure in Massachusetts in good standing are preferred before the start date.
