About The Position

The Mutuel Clerk sells and cashes wagering vouchers for guests to use at self-serve terminals. The role operates under Virginia Racing Commission and Colonial Downs Group rules regarding guest service and money handling. The clerk provides courteous service at a mutuel window, handles wagers and tickets accurately, and is responsible for funds used to issue and cash mutuel tickets. The position requires availability during all live race days at Colonial Downs.

Requirements

• Money handling experience.
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of situational awareness.
• Availability to work during all live race days at Colonial Downs.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Virginia Racing Commission (VRC) racing license.

Responsibilities

• Operate a mutuel window and provide courteous guest service while meeting moral and ethical standards.
• Use a teller terminal (ticket issuing machine) together with a money drawer.
• Accept wagers and issue mutuel tickets that correctly reflect the wager, pool, race, runner, and racetrack.
• Cash winning tickets by checking their validity and value using the ticket reader on the teller terminal.
• Take responsibility for money handling when issuing and cashing tickets, including drawing money from and returning it to the money room, and for any resulting shortage.
• Monitor guests to prevent minors from wagering.
• Refrain from personal wagering.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
