About The Position

The Mutuel Clerk sells and cashes wagering vouchers for guests to use at self-serve terminals. The role operates under Virginia Racing Commission and Colonial Downs Group rules governing guest service and money handling, and provides courteous service while upholding moral and ethical standards. Personal wagering is prohibited.

The clerk uses a teller terminal (ticket issuing machine) with a money drawer to accept wagers and issue accurate mutuel tickets. The role also validates and cashes winning tickets, assumes responsibility for funds handled and for any shortages, and monitors guests to prevent minors from wagering. Other duties may be assigned. The position requires availability during all live race days at Colonial Downs.

Requirements

• Money handling experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Virginia Racing Commission (VRC) racing license.
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of situational awareness.
• Availability to work during all live race days at Colonial Downs.

Responsibilities

• Operate a mutuel window and provide courteous guest service in accordance with applicable rules and ethical standards.
• Use a teller terminal and money drawer to accept wagers and issue accurate mutuel tickets reflecting the correct wager, pool, race, runner, and racetrack.
• Validate and cash winning tickets using the ticket reader on the teller terminal.
• Handle money for the issuance and cashing of mutuel tickets, including drawing and returning funds from the money room, and take responsibility for any shortages.
• Monitor guests to prohibit minors from wagering.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
