About The Position
The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to one of several store departments: Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, or Janitorial. The role promotes sales, answers customer questions, responds to product requests, and accurately handles special orders. The clerk follows safe food-handling procedures and keeps work areas clean, orderly, and free of safety hazards. Duties also include receiving and inspecting shipments, logging products for accuracy and quality, and stocking, rotating, and merchandising products to maintain freshness and department appeal. Depending on the assignment, the clerk may operate a checkstand; handle point-of-sale and inventory activities; prepare, weigh, package, label, trim, wash, or wrap products; serve customers at the seafood counter; maintain floral areas; or perform janitorial and sanitation tasks throughout the store. The position may involve operating department equipment, a forklift if authorized and certified, or a baler if authorized. The hiring pay range is $17.15–$26.70.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and be enthusiastic and flexible on the job.
- High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
- Six months of related experience.
- Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
- Frequent standing and other physical movements are required.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Responsibilities
- Promote sales in the assigned department and answer customer questions and requests.
- Accurately place and fulfill special orders.
- Follow safe food-handling procedures and maintain clean, orderly work areas free from safety hazards.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
- In Center Store/Front End, operate the checkstand according to company policies and procedures, memorize PLU codes, and keep up to date with new products.
- Order, receive, unload, stock, and rotate products in Center Store operations; perform merchandising, point-of-sale, and inventory activities.
- In Produce, trim, wash, and wrap produce according to company policy; maintain floral areas inside and outside the store; clean department areas and equipment.
- In Meat/Seafood, weigh, wrap or package, and label products; provide customer service at the seafood counter; take special orders such as custom meat cuts or holiday items; clean department areas and equipment.
- In Bakery/Deli, prepare, weigh, package, and label products; stock, rotate, and merchandise baked goods and deli products; take special orders such as cakes and party trays; clean department areas and equipment.
- In Janitorial, maintain store cleanliness and sanitation, including floors, back rooms, refrigerated areas, restrooms, break rooms, offices, shelving, cases, front-end equipment, shopping carts, vending machines, the store exterior, and parking lot; empty trash.
- Sweep and mop sales floors, front ends, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
- Operate equipment such as slicers, wrappers, ovens, proofers, mixers, scrubbers, or buffers as applicable to the assignment.
- Operate a forklift if authorized and certified, or a baler if authorized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
