About The Position

The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, or Janitorial. The role promotes sales in the assigned department, answers customer questions, responds to product requests, and accurately places special orders. The clerk follows safe food-handling procedures and maintains a clean, orderly work area free of safety hazards. The position also involves receiving, inspecting, and logging products for shipment accuracy and quality, and stocking, rotating, and merchandising products to maintain freshness and department appeal. Department assignments may include operating a checkstand and carrying out point-of-sale and inventory activities; preparing and handling produce, meat, seafood, bakery, or deli items; fulfilling special orders; maintaining floral areas; or cleaning and sanitizing store areas. The clerk may operate department or janitorial equipment, and may operate a forklift if authorized and certified or a baler if authorized. The position also includes sweeping and mopping sales floors, front ends, back rooms, and refrigerated areas, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
Ability to be proactive, show initiative and enthusiasm, and remain flexible on the job.
High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
Six months of related experience.
Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
Ability to stand and perform other physical movements frequently.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

Promote sales within the assigned department and answer customer questions and product requests.
Place customer special orders accurately.
Follow safe food-handling procedures and keep work areas clean, orderly, and free of safety hazards.
Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
When assigned to Center Store/Front End, operate the checkstand according to company policy, memorize PLU codes, keep up to date with new products, order and handle stock, and perform POS and inventory activities.
When assigned to Produce, trim, wash, and wrap produce; maintain the floral area; and clean department areas and equipment.
When assigned to Meat/Seafood, weigh, wrap or package, and label products; serve customers at the seafood counter; take special orders; and clean department areas and equipment.
When assigned to Bakery/Deli, prepare, weigh, package, and label products; take special orders; and clean department areas and equipment.
When assigned to Janitorial, clean and sanitize store areas, including restrooms, break room, offices, shelving, cases, front-end equipment, shopping carts, vending machines, the store front, and parking lot; empty trash.
Sweep and mop the sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
Operate a forklift if authorized and certified, or a baler if authorized.
Perform other duties as assigned.
