About The Position
The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to one or more store departments, including Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, or Janitorial. The role promotes sales, answers customer questions, responds to requests for products, and accurately places special orders. The clerk follows safe food-handling procedures and maintains clean, orderly work areas free of safety hazards. The role also includes receiving, inspecting, and logging products for shipment accuracy and quality, and stocking, rotating, and merchandising products to maintain freshness and department appeal. Department assignments may include operating a checkstand and performing point-of-sale and inventory activities; handling and preparing produce, meat, seafood, bakery, or deli products; assisting customers at the seafood counter; taking special orders; maintaining floral areas; or cleaning and sanitizing store spaces. Some assignments may involve operating equipment such as slicers, wrappers, ovens, proofers, mixers, scrubbers, or buffers. All departments include sweeping and mopping store areas. A forklift may be operated only if authorized and certified, and a baler may be operated if authorized.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Ability to be proactive, show initiative, be enthusiastic, and remain flexible on the job.
- High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
- Six months of related experience.
- Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
- Standing and other physical movements are required frequently; must be able to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Responsibilities
- Promote sales within the assigned department and answer customer questions and requests.
- Accurately place customer special orders.
- Follow safe food-handling procedures and maintain clean, orderly work areas free of safety hazards.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
- Depending on assignment, operate the checkstand, memorize PLU codes, order and stock center-store products, and perform point-of-sale and inventory activities.
- Depending on assignment, trim, wash, and wrap produce; maintain the floral area; and clean department areas and equipment.
- Depending on assignment, weigh, wrap or package, label, stock, rotate, and merchandise meat and seafood products; serve customers at the seafood counter; and take special orders.
- Depending on assignment, prepare, weigh, package, label, stock, rotate, and merchandise bakery and deli products; take special orders for cakes and party trays; and clean department areas and equipment.
- Depending on assignment, maintain store cleanliness and sanitation, including cleaning floors, restrooms, break rooms, offices, shelving, cases, equipment, carts, vending machines, the store frontage, and parking lot, and emptying trash.
- Sweep and mop the sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
- Operate a forklift if authorized and certified, or operate a baler if authorized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
