Multi-Purpose Clerk - Cashier - 5422 N. Blackstone, Fresno, CA 93710
About The Position
The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to one of several store departments: Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, or Janitorial. The role promotes sales within the assigned department, answers customer questions, responds to product requests, and accurately places special orders. The clerk follows safe food-handling procedures and maintains a clean, orderly work area free from safety hazards. The clerk also receives, inspects, and logs products for shipment accuracy and quality, and stocks, rotates, and merchandises products to preserve freshness and department appeal. Department assignments may include operating a checkstand and performing point-of-sale and inventory activities; preparing and merchandising produce, meat/seafood, bakery, or deli products; assisting customers and taking special orders; or cleaning and sanitizing store areas. Duties shared across departments include sweeping and mopping sales floors, front ends, back rooms, and refrigerated areas. Forklifts may be operated only if authorized and certified, and balers may be operated if authorized. Other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Ability to be proactive, take initiative, be enthusiastic, and remain flexible on the job.
- High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
- Six months of related experience.
- Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
- Ability to stand and perform other physical movements frequently.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Responsibilities
- Promote sales within the assigned department and answer customer questions and product requests.
- Accurately place special orders.
- Follow safe food-handling procedures and keep work areas clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
- In Center Store/Front End, operate the checkstand according to company policies and procedures, memorize PLU codes, and keep up to date with new products.
- Order, receive, unload, stock, and rotate products on shelves and cases in center store operations.
- Perform point-of-sale and inventory activities.
- In Produce, trim, wash, and wrap produce according to company policy; maintain the floral area; and clean department areas and equipment.
- In Meat/Seafood, weigh, wrap or package, and label products for display; provide customer service at the seafood counter; take special orders; and keep department areas and equipment clean.
- In Bakery/Deli, prepare, weigh, package, and label products for display; take special orders; and keep department areas and equipment clean.
- In Janitorial, clean and sanitize the store, including sales areas, restrooms, break rooms, offices, shelving, cases, equipment, shopping carts, vending machines, the store entrance, and parking lot; empty trash.
- Sweep and mop sales floors, front ends, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
- Operate a forklift only if authorized and certified, and operate a baler if authorized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
