About The Position
The Multi-Purpose Clerk is part of a team focused on serving guests and providing a positive total-store experience. The clerk may be assigned to one or more store departments, including Center Store/Front End, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, Janitorial, Valley Fresh, or Restaurant. The position promotes sales, answers guest questions, responds to product requests, and accurately places special orders. It also involves receiving and inspecting products, maintaining product quality and freshness through stocking and rotation, and keeping work areas clean, orderly, and safe. Duties vary by department and may include operating registers, preparing and packaging food, merchandising products, cleaning and sanitation, and operating authorized equipment.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Excellent guest service and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Ability to be proactive, show initiative, be enthusiastic, and remain flexible on the job.
- High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
- Six months of grocery retail-related experience.
- Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
- Frequent standing and other physical movements; ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Responsibilities
- Promote sales in the assigned department and provide guest service, answer questions, respond to product requests, and take special orders.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
- Follow safe food-handling procedures and maintain clean, orderly work areas free from safety hazards.
- Depending on assignment, operate check stands or restaurant registers, perform POS and inventory activities, and keep current on product or restaurant offerings.
- Depending on assignment, trim, wash, weigh, package, wrap, label, or prepare produce, meat, seafood, bakery, deli, or other products for display.
- Depending on assignment, maintain floral areas and provide seafood-counter service.
- Depending on assignment, clean and sanitize the store or restaurant, including floors, restrooms, back rooms, refrigerated areas, equipment, shopping carts, and parking areas; empty trash.
- Sweep and mop sales floors, front ends, back rooms, and refrigerated areas as required for all department assignments.
- Operate a forklift only if authorized and certified, and operate a baler only if authorized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
