About The Position
The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to one of several store departments, including Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, or Janitorial. The role promotes sales within the assigned department, answers customer questions, responds to product requests, and accurately places special orders. Clerks follow safe food-handling procedures and maintain clean, orderly work areas free from safety hazards. They receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality, and stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal. Department assignments may involve operating a check-stand; ordering and stocking merchandise; preparing produce, meat, seafood, bakery, or deli products; providing customer service; maintaining floral areas; or cleaning and sanitizing store spaces. Some assignments may require operating department equipment. Across departments, clerks may sweep and mop store areas, and may operate a forklift or baler when authorized.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Ability to be proactive, show initiative, be enthusiastic, and remain flexible on the job.
- High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
- Six months of related experience.
- Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
- Able to stand and perform other physical movements frequently.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs. without assistance.
Responsibilities
- Promote sales in the assigned department and answer customer questions and product requests.
- Accurately place special orders.
- Follow safe food-handling procedures and keep work areas clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
- In Center Store/Front End, operate the check-stand according to company policy, memorize PLU codes, order and receive products, unload and stock merchandise, and perform POS and inventory activities.
- In Produce, trim, wash, and wrap produce according to company policy; maintain the floral area; and clean department areas and equipment.
- In Meat/Seafood, weigh, wrap or package, and label products; serve customers at the seafood counter; take special orders; and keep department areas and equipment clean.
- In Bakery/Deli, prepare, weigh, package, and label products; take special orders; and keep department areas and equipment clean.
- In Janitorial, clean and sanitize the store, including floors, restrooms, break room, offices, shelves, cases, equipment, shopping carts, vending machines, the store exterior, and parking lot; empty trash.
- Sweep and mop the sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
- Operate a forklift if authorized and certified, and operate a baler if authorized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
