About The Position
The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to one of several store departments, including Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, Janitorial, or Pharmacy. The clerk promotes sales, answers customer questions, responds to product requests, and accurately places special orders. Across assignments, the role includes receiving, inspecting, and logging products for shipment accuracy and quality; stocking, rotating, and merchandising products; maintaining clean, orderly work areas; and following safe food-handling practices. Duties vary by department and may include operating registers, preparing or packaging products, serving customers at department counters, and cleaning store areas and equipment. The clerk may operate a forklift if authorized and certified, or a baler if authorized, and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Ability to be proactive, show initiative and enthusiasm, and remain flexible on the job.
- High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
- Six months of related experience.
- Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
- Standing and other physical movements are required frequently; must be able to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Responsibilities
- Promote sales in the assigned department and answer customer questions and product requests.
- Accurately take and place customer special orders.
- Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
- Follow safe food-handling procedures and maintain clean, orderly work areas free from safety hazards.
- Depending on assignment, operate a checkstand or pharmacy register; handle products, transactions, or customer orders according to company procedures.
- Depending on assignment, prepare, trim, wash, weigh, wrap, package, label, or display products.
- Depending on assignment, provide customer service at the seafood counter and take special orders such as custom meat cuts, holiday items, cakes, or party trays.
- Maintain floral areas, department areas, equipment, and store cleanliness and sanitation as assigned.
- Sweep and mop sales floors, front ends, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
- Depending on assignment, clean restrooms, break rooms, office areas, shelving, cases, equipment, shopping carts, vending machines, store frontage, and parking lots; empty trash.
- Operate a forklift if authorized and certified, or a baler if authorized.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
