About The Position

The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to one of several store departments, including Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, Janitorial, or Pharmacy. The clerk promotes sales, answers customer questions, responds to requests for products, and accurately places special orders. The role requires safe food handling and maintaining clean, orderly work areas free from safety hazards. The clerk receives, inspects, and logs products for shipment accuracy and quality, and stocks, rotates, and merchandises products to maintain freshness and department appeal.

Department-specific tasks may include operating a checkstand or pharmacy register; handling and merchandising products; preparing, weighing, packaging, and labeling bakery, deli, meat, seafood, or produce items; assisting customers and taking special orders; and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation. Some assignments involve operating equipment such as ovens, proofers, slicers, mixers, scrubbers, or buffers. Across departments, the clerk may sweep and mop store areas, operate a forklift if authorized and certified, and operate a baler if authorized. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
• Ability to be proactive, take initiative, be enthusiastic, and remain flexible on the job.
• High school diploma or GED, or additional job experience.
• Six months of related experience.
• Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours.
• Frequent standing and other physical movements; ability to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance.

Responsibilities

• Promote sales within the assigned department and answer customer questions and product requests.
• Accurately place special orders.
• Practice safe food handling and keep the work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy and quality.
• Stock, rotate, and merchandise products to maintain freshness and department appeal.
• Depending on assignment, operate a checkstand or pharmacy register, handle products, prepare or package items, assist customers, and maintain department cleanliness and sanitation.
• Sweep and mop sales floors, front-end areas, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
• Operate a forklift if authorized and certified, or a baler if authorized.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
