About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Portland, Hillsboro, Beaverton, and surrounding areas in Oregon. The role focuses on supporting families during end-of-life care in the comfort of their homes, allowing time to listen, explain options, and honor each pet without the pace and pressure of a traditional clinic. Veterinarians practice independently while traveling to appointments, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. Schedules are self-managed, with options ranging from two to five days per week. Compensation is prorated for part-time schedules and includes a guaranteed base salary with no negative accrual and opportunities for quarterly bonuses. Weekend work is arranged by the veterinarian, who chooses four weekend days per month.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), VMD, or BVMS degree.
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Support families through end-of-life decisions and help make the experience dignified and peaceful.
Listen to families, explain care, and honor each pet’s story during appointments.
Practice independently while traveling to appointments in the Portland-area service region.
Choose four weekend days per month for work.
