About The Position
Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and families in Tampa, Lutz, Citrus Park, University, Clearwater, and the surrounding metropolitan area. Care is delivered in pets’ homes, where families can say goodbye in a familiar setting. The role emphasizes unhurried, attentive appointments, clear and kind communication, and helping families make end-of-life decisions with dignity and peace. The veterinarian practices independently while traveling to appointments, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and access to experienced colleagues for support. Scheduling options range from two days per week to full-time, with self-managed scheduling available for some part-time schedules. Weekend work is arranged by choosing four weekend days per month rather than following a fixed rotation. Compensation depends on schedule, with guaranteed compensation ranging from $65,000 to $155,000 and quarterly bonus opportunities. The posting lists $135,000 for a five-day full-time schedule and $110,000 for a four-day full-time schedule.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) degree.
- Valid U.S. driver's license.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
- Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.
Responsibilities
- Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
- Spend time listening to families, explaining care, answering difficult questions, and supporting dignified end-of-life decisions.
- Travel independently to appointments in the Tampa metropolitan service area.
- Participate in onboarding and mentorship and seek support from experienced colleagues when needed.
