About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is hiring a compassionate veterinarian to provide in-home hospice and euthanasia care to pets and their families in Portland, Hillsboro, Beaverton, and surrounding areas in Oregon. The role centers on delivering unhurried, empathetic end-of-life care in the home, helping families understand their options and say goodbye with dignity and peace. Veterinarians typically conduct a few appointments each day and practice independently on the road, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and access to experienced colleagues for support. Schedules are self-managed and range from two to five days per week, with full-time and part-time options. Full-time compensation ranges from a $90,000 starting base salary for a four-day schedule to $110,000 for a five-day schedule, plus quarterly bonus opportunities; compensation for other schedules is prorated. Weekend work is arranged by the veterinarian, who chooses four weekend days per month.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver's license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Support families through end-of-life decisions and help them say goodbye with dignity and compassion.
Listen to families, explain care, and honor each pet's story during appointments.
Travel independently to appointments in the service area.
Choose four weekend days per month to work.
