Mental Health Technician (On Call/PRN) - Day and Night shifts
About The Position
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Technicians to provide direct care to patients with mental health conditions. The role works closely with nursing and clinical teams to maintain a safe, supportive environment. This is an on-call/PRN position with day and night shifts available. Day shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; night shifts run from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Staff must work four shifts per month, be available for up to eight shifts per month (including two weekend shifts and a holiday rotation), submit availability four weeks ahead of scheduling, and be available for same-day call-offs and 1:1 assignments. Shifts are assigned by Staffing based on business need, are not self-selected, and hours are not guaranteed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current BLS/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it upon hire.
- Strong observational skills and physical stamina.
- A patient, judgment-free demeanor.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Four shifts per month required, with availability for up to eight shifts per month, including two weekend shifts and a holiday rotation.
- Availability must be submitted four weeks ahead of scheduling.
- Availability for same-day call-offs and 1:1 assignments.
Nice To Haves
- At least six months of experience in behavioral health or an acute hospital.
- Previous experience working with people with special needs or autism.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct, compassionate care to patients with mental health conditions.
- Monitor patient behavior, listen to concerns, and accurately document changes in health or mood.
- Safely assist patients through behavioral escalations using de-escalation techniques.
- Maintain a healthy, structured, and safe physical environment for patients and staff.
- Communicate information about patients’ behavior to other members of the treatment team.
- Encourage and facilitate patients’ participation in therapeutic activities.
- Orient new patients to the facility, program, and setting.
