Mental Health Technician (On Call/PRN) - Day and Night shifts

About The Position

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Technicians to provide direct care to patients with mental health conditions. The role works closely with nursing and clinical teams to maintain a safe, supportive, healthy, and structured environment. Day shifts (7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.) and night shifts (7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.) are available. This is an on-call/PRN position; hours are not guaranteed, and shifts are assigned by Staffing based on business need rather than selected by the technician. The commitment includes responding to same-day call-offs and 1:1 assignments.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Current BLS/CPR certification required, or willingness to obtain it upon hire.
Strong observational skills and physical stamina.
Patient, judgment-free demeanor.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
Four shifts per month required, with availability for up to eight shifts per month, including two weekend shifts and a holiday rotation.
Submit availability four weeks ahead of time for schedule building.
Commitment to on-call coverage for same-day call-offs and 1:1 assignments.

Nice To Haves

At least six months of experience in behavioral health or an acute hospital setting preferred.
Previous experience working with people with special needs or autism preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide direct, compassionate care to patients with mental health conditions.
Monitor patient behavior, listen to concerns, and accurately document changes in health or mood.
Assist patients safely during behavioral escalations using de-escalation techniques.
Maintain a healthy, structured, and safe physical environment for patients and staff.
Communicate information about patient behavior to other members of the treatment team.
Encourage and facilitate patient participation in therapeutic activities.
Orient new patients to the facility, program, and setting.
