About The Position

The incumbent serves as a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) for a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Duties include performing receptionist and clerical functions in an ambulatory clinic, such as data entry, appointment scheduling, and coordination with specialty services. The role involves entering, updating, and retrieving information from electronic health records and other automated systems, managing clinic appointment schedules, and coordinating patient flow. Responsibilities also include managing secure messaging, routing calls, relaying messages, and escalating urgent issues. The Medical Support Assistant verifies patient eligibility and provides information on clinic and hospital policies and procedures. Additionally, the role involves preparing routine correspondence, progress reports, medical statements, and statistical reports.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, tuberculosis etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

  • To qualify for the GS-04: General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, performing receptionist and clerical duties, including greeting visitors, answering and directing phone calls, organizing and maintaining basic files, and using office automation systems to support daily administrative operations.
  • OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
  • OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
  • To qualify for the GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical or administrative support in a medical clinic, including greeting patients, managing phone and secure messaging systems, scheduling and coordinating appointments, maintaining electronic and paper medical records, preparing routine correspondence and reports, and supporting patient in- and out-processing.
  • OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
  • OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
  • Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
