About The Position

The Medication Reconciliation Assistant (MRA) works within the health system under a pharmacist’s supervision to collect and accurately document the best possible medication list for patients. This list includes the correct drug name, strength, route, and administration frequency for current prescription and over-the-counter medications. The MRA may interview patients, family members or caregivers, external medical providers or facilities, and outpatient or mail-order pharmacies, and may review electronic medical records from prior hospital encounters to collect or validate information. The MRA documents information in the electronic medical record for the current hospital encounter and communicates corrections or additions to medical providers for review and action. The role may also involve obtaining or correcting medication allergy information, including the medication and type of reaction. The MRA responds to provider and patient needs, prioritizes work to support timely and safe patient care, and participates in quality improvement projects and related data collection and presentations. The position also supports education and training for providers, nurses, ancillary staff, new employees, and less experienced technicians; participates in committees and initiatives advancing the Medication Reconciliation Program; and serves as a liaison between the Medication Reconciliation Team and hospital clinical staff. The MRA follows Emory Healthcare’s PLEDGE and care transformational model, contributes to teamwork and continuous improvement, reports safety concerns, and maintains knowledge through professional activities and required training. The schedule is 7 consecutive 10-hour shifts followed by 7 days off, generally from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Shift times may vary with departmental needs. The schedule is based on a two-week pay period and includes every other weekend and holidays that fall within the scheduled rotation. Physical demands and environmental exposures may vary by assigned work area and tasks.
