About The Position

A nonexempt position responsible for providing medical assistant care in various ambulatory settings under the supervision of physicians, providers, and/or registered nurses. Clinical direction, oversight, and competency review are provided by medical providers and the ambulatory professional development team in coordination with office management. The role greets patients and guests using AIDET, delivers an excellent service experience, supports patients, keeps them informed about delays, and takes appropriate action, including offering alternatives. The position performs administrative and clinical duties, including rooming patients and documenting vital signs, pain, reason for visit, and medication, social, surgical, family, and medical history. It handles EMR in-baskets, telephone and MyChart messages, medical-record documentation, and retrieval of reports, results, and records. Duties may also include completing insurance or disability forms, precertifications and authorizations, point-of-care testing, transcribing or entering orders under protocol, and assisting with work queues, bump lists, and wait lists. The medical assistant may schedule appointments, conduct patient outreach and callbacks, administer and document vaccines, collect and safely handle specimens, assist providers with monitoring and reporting lab results, and file reports and correspondence in the EMR. The role may obtain prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and testing. It requires effective communication with patients and multidisciplinary team members, adherence to the organization’s mission, vision, values, ethical conduct, and regulatory standards, and flexibility to multitask in a fast-paced environment and adjust to patient volume. The employee may be asked to work at other ambulatory offices based on volume and may perform other duties assigned by the manager.
