Market Attendant
About The Position
The Market Attendant serves guests in the Market and Grab and Go areas, taking and fulfilling orders accurately and providing helpful, friendly, courteous, and professional service. The role includes preparing items such as coffee, pizza, and ice cream; cashiering; answering Room Service calls; communicating menu specials and food preparation information; documenting orders and allergies; and ensuring orders are complete and properly packaged. The attendant enters orders into the Micros system, supports timely pickups, maintains cashier forms and the VIP board, responds to guest concerns, and keeps the work station clean and organized. The position may also assist other outlets as needed. Employees may work varying schedules, including weekends and holidays, according to hotel business needs.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old to serve alcohol.
- Basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service standards.
- Ability to learn menu items and accompaniments, remember and recite menu options, and promote them.
- Ability to operate a keyboard and point-of-sale procedures to pre-check, enter orders, and close checks.
- Ability to operate a commercial dishwasher and beverage equipment such as coffee makers, tea makers, and espresso machines.
- Ability to read, speak, and understand English fluently to communicate with customers and understand instructions.
- Ability to comprehend and apply written product-labeling instructions for safe use of products and processes.
- Ability to climb stairs and move throughout the premises, including bending, stooping, and reaching overhead.
- Ability to remain stationary and concentrate for long periods, often in a high-volume, high-pressure area.
- Ability to use finger and hand movements for extended periods and manipulate switches, writing instruments, and a computer keyboard.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at waist height and push or pull up to 200 pounds.
- Ability to remain calm during emergencies and work effectively with guests, using patience, tact, and diplomacy to resolve concerns.
- Ability to work in hot, wet, loud, and noisy conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; no prior experience required.

Responsibilities
- Serve guests in the Market area and prepare items such as coffee, pizza, and ice cream.
- Act as cashier for Grab and Go and other guest purchases.
- Move throughout Grab and Go areas to ensure quality and service standards are met.
- Answer Room Service calls and assist guests at the Grab and Go counter; announce specials, promote menu items, answer food-preparation questions, document orders and allergies, repeat orders for accuracy, and quote expected delivery times.
- Retrieve checks and orders, verify that orders are complete, and ensure food from the kitchen is wrapped.
- Enter orders and special requests into the Micros system; provide the server copy of the check and help secure the proper signature or payment method.
- Maintain an accurate tray tracker and help servers expedite pickups.
- Retrieve daily specials and post them on the board above Micros.
- Maintain sufficient cashier-desk forms, including amenity request forms, due-backs, side-work forms, and purchasing requisitions.
- Update the VIP board daily.
- Answer calls for trash pickup and direct servers to retrieve items.
- Respond positively to guest complaints, negotiate compromises, and implement solutions.
- Keep the work station clean and organized.
- Call guests to check on food and service quality.
- Assist other outlets as needed.
