About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Marker-Grader for the PSYC/NEUR 2P36, Foundations of Brain and Behaviour course for the Fall D2-2 term. This position involves marking essays and/or assignments, with duties and responsibilities in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. The number of hours and total stipend will vary based on department, course, and student enrollment, calculated at 0.67 hours per registered student.

Requirements

  • Must have completed or be enrolled in PSYC 5Y51/52 or PSYC 7Y51/52/53 OR Minimum 3rd Year complete and currently enrolled in a PSYC BA or BSc program, with an average of at least 80.
  • Have taken PSYC/NEUR 2P36 (or equivalent course in physiological psychology with a laboratory component), and achieved a grade of at least 75.
  • Previous experience in lab-related brain & behaviour courses with a dissection component.
  • Demonstrate a clear and thorough understanding of all aspects of the course, including neuroanatomy and function.
  • Have a thorough understanding of physiological psychology.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to keep accurate records/manage data.
  • Excellent time management skills in order to mark papers within a constrained turn-around time.
  • Strong writing and editing skills and a thorough understanding of APA writing style.
  • Comfortable with the reading and interpretation of primary and secondary-source research papers and text associated with the course.
  • Experience with conducting dissections, and lab demonstrations.
  • Must be available for on-campus activities during all scheduled lecture times.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous successful experience as a TA or Marker-Grader in this course in an academic setting will be considered as equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Marking essays and/or assignments.
  • Providing feedback to students in a constructive manner and in a timely-fashion.
  • Conducting dissections and lab demonstrations.
  • Explaining all course topics clearly.
  • Grading lab reports and examinations associated with brain and behaviour and neuroanatomy.
