About The Position

This position is for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a Medical-Surgical unit at Rochester General Hospital. The role involves taking independent patient assignments with RN support, focusing on medical patients with conditions such as COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues. The nurse will be responsible for various clinical tasks including vital signs monitoring, medication administration, wound care, and Foley catheter insertion. Experience with EPIC charting is required. The position requires flexibility for floating within skillset and adherence to specific scheduling and call-off policies.

Requirements

  • Active New York Single State LPN license
  • BLS certification
  • EPIC experience required
  • Must be able to take own patient assignment, with the support of an RN
  • Acute Care experience within the last 2 years
  • Experience with vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring, isolation precautions, physical restraints, specimen labeling, Oxygen administration via nasal cannula, Feeding tube management, Telemetry monitoring, 12-lead EKG
  • Experience with medication administration (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops), IV therapy with pumps, blood glucose monitoring
  • Experience with wound care basics (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains), bathing and mouth care, Foley catheter insertion (male/female), clean catch urine collection, communication of status changes to RN/MD, MS/Tele care setting

Responsibilities

  • Perform wound care basics (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains)
  • Provide bathing and mouth care
  • Perform Foley catheter insertion (male/female)
  • Collect clean catch urine samples
  • Communicate status changes to RN/MD
  • Work in an MS/Tele care setting
  • Float within skillset as required
