About The Position

ASU EdPlus is seeking a Learning Experience Designer to join its Digital Learning team. EdPlus designs and scales digital teaching and learning models to increase student success and reduce barriers to achievement in higher education. This senior individual-contributor role applies user-experience design practices to learning experiences across the course portfolio, with ownership of visual design, information architecture, navigation, and wayfinding. The designer works in a collaborative, cross-functional studio with data scientists, UX researchers, product managers, learning assessment leads, multimedia producers, and faculty. The role establishes visual and information design standards; designs and tests course interfaces and repeatable experience patterns; and develops component, pattern, and template libraries that support consistent, high-quality design at portfolio scale. It uses student research, usability findings, course analytics, and efficacy evidence to improve learning experiences. The position is in-person and hybrid, based at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center, and requires reliable commuting to Scottsdale, Arizona. Flexible work options are subject to approvals under ASU policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of experience appropriate to the assignment or field, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training that provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Applicant must be eligible to work in the United States; ASU EdPlus will not sponsor this position.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to Scottsdale, Arizona.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Demonstrated skill producing wireframes and low- and high-fidelity mockups using tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience conducting user research, including moderated usability testing, interviews, and surveys, and iterating designs based on findings.
  • Experience building and governing a design system or pattern library used by multiple designers.
  • Demonstrated practical application of WCAG 2.1 AA and Universal Design for Learning in production work, plus working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Evidence of fluency in learning science, including cognitive load theory, multimedia learning principles, and backward design.
  • One or two examples of visual and information design work, such as an online portfolio, PDF, or annotated screenshots, may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Own the visual and information design standard across EDL's course portfolio, including typography, hierarchy, color, iconography, spacing, and layout systems.
  • Design module-, page-, and course-level information architecture so navigation, wayfinding, sequence, and progress are clear to students.
  • Produce wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for course interfaces; iterate based on usability findings and efficacy evidence; and deliver specifications for implementation.
  • Partner with multimedia teams to create a visual through-line between produced video and on-page design, using WCAG 2.1 AA as a design constraint.
  • Define and validate signature experience patterns for priority moments, including their sequence, cues, and early checkpoints.
  • Develop repeatable patterns for priority moments and enable learnings from individual courses to transfer across the portfolio.
  • Define success measures for experience patterns before launch, measure results with UX Research and Action Lab, and recommend when to shift effort to another target.
  • Build and govern component, pattern, and template libraries that support visually consistent, high-quality courses at portfolio scale.
  • Establish and run recurring design critiques to improve work in progress.
  • Partner with UX Research on usability, first-click, and navigation testing and student interviews; analyze learner feedback and course analytics to identify where students stall or disengage.
  • Assume or coordinate other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
