About The Position

The Lead Housekeeper performs housekeeping duties while supervising the housekeeping team and helping maintain cleanliness standards and a welcoming environment at Palmetto General Hospital. The role includes coordinating with other departments and interacting courteously with hospital staff, visitors, and patients. The position is full-time, scheduled Friday through Tuesday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Requirements

• Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks independently.
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and push/pull heavy carts; an earlier qualification statement specifies lifting up to 50 lbs and pushing/pulling carts up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous housekeeping, janitorial, or environmental services experience in a healthcare setting is a plus, but not required.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee housekeeping staff, assign tasks, and ensure cleaning and maintenance duties meet expected standards.
• Coordinate with other departments, including front desk and maintenance, and perform other duties as assigned.
• Train new staff in cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and cleaning chemical use; provide ongoing guidance and support.
• Inspect rooms and common areas for cleanliness and proper setup, and promptly address deficiencies.
• Manage cleaning supply and linen inventory, place orders as needed, and ensure cleaning equipment is safe and well-maintained.
• Respond to housekeeping-related complaints and take action to resolve issues; interact with hospital staff, visitors, and patients in a friendly, cooperative manner.
• Maintain records of staff performance, guest satisfaction, and health and safety compliance; prepare staff schedules and manage overtime as needed.
