GE Vernova
•$78,800 - $131,200•Remote

About The Position

GE Vernova’s Power Conversion & Storage business delivers power electronics, battery energy storage systems, and solar solutions for utilities, developers, and industrial customers. The Lead Field Service Engineer serves as the technical authority for installation, commissioning, and maintenance of advanced drive architectures used in demanding industrial and marine applications. The role requires significant autonomy in leading onsite projects and troubleshooting complex drive and control systems, while connecting field operations with engineering to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and lifecycle value. The engineer leads commissioning and startup, diagnoses MV/LV drives and power electronics, validates system communications and control loops, and investigates complex technical problems at customer sites, ports, or at sea. The role also includes advising and training customers, identifying service and upgrade opportunities, complying with company, safety, and maritime standards, and maintaining accurate technical documentation. The position is remote and requires willingness to travel up to 85% of the time, often on short notice. Candidates must be able to board offshore vessels and pass BOSIET. The role requires U.S. work authorization and the ability to achieve and maintain a security clearance for DoD projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university and at least 5 years of hands-on commissioning experience involving LV/MV drive and control systems; or an associate degree and at least 7 years of relevant commissioning experience; or a high school diploma/GED and at least 10 years of relevant commissioning experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end commissioning of advanced drive systems and power electronics, including integration with shipboard power management and propulsion systems.
  • Troubleshoot MV/LV drive systems, rectifiers, and inverters using oscilloscopes and diagnostic software to analyze firing pulses, gate signals, and control logic.
  • Validate communication protocols such as Profibus, Modbus, and IEC 61850, and tune speed, torque, and current control loops within multi-drive architectures.
  • Conduct diagnostic investigations at site locations, during port visits, or at sea, and resolve persistent technical challenges through evidence-based corrective actions.
  • Provide naval and commercial customers with training on system operations, optimization, and preventative maintenance.
  • Identify and promote service, spare-parts, and system upgrade opportunities to support vessel performance.
