Sargent & Lundy•Warrenville, IL
•$134,546 - $205,557•Hybrid

About The Position

The Lead Electrical Engineer will lead a project team of engineers and designers in the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems supporting nuclear material processing, nuclear waste treatment, storage and disposal systems, and commercial nuclear power plants. The role involves challenging assignments in designing, investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving a wide range of electrical engineering issues. It offers a hybrid work arrangement, with a mix of work from home and office work. The position serves as the Electrical team lead for detailed design coordination and helps ensure project work is completed satisfactorily, on schedule, and within budget. The engineer coordinates systems design to meet specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements; prepares and reviews electrical calculations, design documentation, reports, and studies; interfaces with vendors on equipment and materials specifications; and independently reviews others’ engineering work. The role also includes mentoring less experienced engineers and developing professionally through peer learning and Sargent & Lundy’s Communities of Practice. This position supports Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division, which provides engineering design and consulting support to contractors managing and operating U.S. Department of Energy sites and national laboratories, including DOE Environmental Management and National Nuclear Security Administration sites. Work may support environmental cleanup of the legacy nuclear weapons production complex or preservation of the U.S. nuclear deterrent.

  • Must be able and willing to obtain Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.
  • At least 12 years of experience designing electrical engineering systems in a project team environment, ideally in commercial power, DOE, nuclear Navy, or NNSA work, with a focus on integrated detailed system design for new plants or modifications and replacements for existing plants.
  • Experience selecting equipment and materials, defining control philosophy, and preparing and assembling calculations and specifications.
  • Experience with electrical system design, including low-voltage distribution systems, transformers, generators, motors, communication systems, equipment selection, and analytical calculations.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading an engineering design team through all phases of project design.
