Lead Electrical Engineer 2 - Mission Critical

Sargent & Lundy•Augusta, GA
•$134,546 - $205,557•Hybrid

About The Position

The Lead Electrical Engineer will lead a project team of engineers and designers in the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems supporting nuclear material processing, nuclear waste treatment, storage and disposal systems, and commercial nuclear power plants. Assignments include designing, investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving a wide range of electrical engineering issues. The role coordinates detailed electrical design, ensures project delivery on schedule and within budget, and helps ensure systems comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements. The position offers a hybrid arrangement, combining work from home and office work. The engineer prepares and reviews electrical calculations, design documentation, reports, and studies; coordinates with vendors on equipment and materials specifications; and performs independent reviews of calculations and drawings. The role also involves liaising with clients, mentoring less experienced engineers, and participating in peer learning and knowledge-sharing through Sargent & Lundy's processes and Communities of Practice. The position supports Sargent & Lundy's Government Services Division, which provides engineering design and consulting to U.S. Department of Energy sites, national laboratories, and National Nuclear Security Administration sites. Work may support cleanup of legacy nuclear weapons production sites or preservation of the country's nuclear deterrent, including facilities, systems, and equipment for treating, storing, and disposing of nuclear waste and safely handling and processing nuclear material.

  • Must be able and willing to obtain Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.
  • 12 or more years of experience designing electrical engineering systems in a project-team environment, ideally in commercial power, DOE, nuclear Navy, or NNSA settings, with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants or modifications or replacements for existing plants.
  • Experience selecting equipment and materials, developing control philosophies, and preparing and assembling calculations and specifications.
  • Experience designing electrical systems, including low-voltage distribution systems, transformers, generators, motors, communication systems, equipment selection, and analytical calculations.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading an engineering design team through all phases of project design.
