Lead Electrical Engineer 2 - Mission Critical

Sargent & Lundy•Oak Ridge, TN
•$134,546 - $205,557•Hybrid

About The Position

The Lead Electrical Engineer 2 will lead a project team of engineers and designers in the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems supporting nuclear material processing, nuclear waste treatment, storage and disposal systems, and commercial nuclear power plants. Assignments include designing, investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving a broad range of electrical engineering issues. The position has a hybrid arrangement, with work from home and in the office. The role leads detailed electrical design phases and helps ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget. It coordinates system design to ensure installations and operations meet specifications, codes, and client requirements; prepares and reviews electrical calculations and design documentation; interfaces with vendors; and produces client-ready reports and studies. The engineer also independently reviews others’ work, shares knowledge through Sargent & Lundy’s processes and Communities of Practice, and mentors less experienced engineers. The role supports Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division, which provides engineering design and consulting to DOE sites, national laboratories, and NNSA sites. Its work includes designing facilities, systems, and equipment to treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste and to safely handle and process nuclear material.

  • Experience selecting equipment and materials, defining control philosophy, and preparing and assembling calculations and specifications.
  • Experience in electrical system design, including low-voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, and motors), communication systems, equipment selection, and analytical calculations.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading an engineering design team through all phases of project design.
  • Technical knowledge of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems for systems design.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
