About The Position

Assist management with store operations by performing clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department, leading by example, and supporting the department manager with general department operations as directed. The role includes providing fast, friendly customer service; answering questions and complaints professionally; performing grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker duties; and assisting employees with their tasks, including coordinating breaks and lunches. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Communicate clearly and professionally, using strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and establish and maintain rapport with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, customers, and others.
Provide leadership and maintain composure while professionally addressing difficult or angry customers, vendors, and co-workers.
Understand company practices, policies, and procedures sufficiently to assess and respond to customer activity.
Demonstrate initiative and self-direction while multitasking across a variety of duties.
Conduct visual inspections and read reports, computer printouts, register screens, and computer screens.
Perform basic arithmetic and compute weights and measures.
Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately, with honesty and integrity.
Meet the minimum age requirement: 18 in Montana and Oregon; 21 in all other states.
Consistently provide world-class customer service to internal and external customers.
Work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Perform the duties in the applicable department-specific job description for grocery clerk, cashier, and/or freight stocker.
Understand overall company practices through prior experience in the designated department or equivalent.
Use cleaning chemicals properly according to manufacturer guidelines and instructions.
Handle food products in accordance with state and county laws and WinCo standards.
Reach, lift, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 50 pounds frequently.
Stand for long periods; walk and move rapidly; and bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
Perform duties with mental alertness around potential hazards involving procedures, machines, equipment, and work aids.
Understand state and federal regulations when certification is needed.
Hold a Food Handler's Certification where required by state law.

Responsibilities

Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers, maintaining a friendly and enthusiastic customer-service environment.
Perform clerk duties in the designated grocery or freight department, with responsibilities as described in the applicable Grocery Clerk, Cashier/Checker, and/or Freight Stocker job descriptions.
Lead customer-service activities, including handling complaints and requests, approving checks, selling gift certificates, issuing refunds, receiving returned-check payments, and answering customer questions.
Monitor area activity, customer traffic flow, and checkout-lane coverage.
Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of work areas, storage areas, equipment, and retail displays; clean by mopping, sweeping, and taking out garbage.
Keep the assigned department or area clear of excess carts, baskets, and garbage.
Monitor employee arrivals, breaks, lunches, and departures, and communicate regularly with the immediate supervisor.
Assist the immediate supervisor as needed or directed.
Provide clerks with direction and leadership, demonstrate and perform clerk duties and assigned tasks, and answer employee questions.
May monitor cashier money-handling procedures and assist with scan-system issues, including UPC codes not on file and scan-pricing errors.
May stock department racks, shelves, displays, and coolers; use cleaning materials and department equipment; pull cardboard; face walls and aisles; perform cashiering; and complete other assigned duties.
Maintain awareness of customer and employee safety.
Stock and rotate merchandise in any area of the store as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
