About The Position

The Laborer performs physical labor at construction sites and is skilled in operating hand and power tools, including air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, and surveying and measuring equipment. The role may involve cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, setting braces to support excavation sides, erecting scaffolding, and clearing rubble, debris, and other waste materials.

Requirements

• High school degree or equivalent educational experience.
• Ability to physically stand, bend, and squat, and lift up to 60 pounds.
• Skilled and proficient at operating hand and power tools and a variety of construction equipment and instruments.

Nice To Haves

• Vocational school or trade apprenticeship experience.

Responsibilities

• Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
• Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
• Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
• Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, and distribute them to appropriate locations according to project plans or specifications.
• Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.
• Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.
• Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment, or to heat or move materials such as asphalt.
