About The Position

The J-1 Work & Travel Program is designed for university students from other countries who are on academic break and seeking seasonal employment in the United States. Its primary focus is cultural exchange, providing participants with work experience and an opportunity to experience American culture. The J1 Intern Server ensures guests receive service to the standards of The American Club's restaurant, bar, and banquet areas. The role involves taking orders and serving food and beverages in a friendly, timely, and efficient manner, and preparing beverages where applicable. This is a full-time onsite position in Kohler, Wisconsin, with shifts varying between 5:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and weekends.

Requirements

Two years of previous experience as a server.
Safe Serve certification, as applicable.
Authorization to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

Inform guests about daily specials and menu changes.
Recommend food and beverages and use appropriate methods to upsell.
Take guest food and beverage orders and enter them accurately into the point-of-sale system.
Greet guests and present menus when applicable.
Process payment transactions.
Clear and reset tables and linens as needed.
Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by a supervisor.
Communicate with guests and assist with their questions.
Coordinate with restaurant staff to support smooth operations and guest satisfaction.
Serve food and beverages according to the order sequence.
Observe guests and ensure they are satisfied with the food and service.
Respond promptly to additional guest requests.
Maintain the dining experience by delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, offering desserts and drinks, removing courses, replenishing utensils, and refilling glasses.
Prepare mixed drinks for guests' tables where applicable, if at least 18 years old and licensed.
Understand and communicate products and services available at the resort.
Assist with stocking and maintaining restaurant par stock levels and side stations.
Assist other restaurant areas, including answering telephones and seating guests.
