About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for the Language, Literature and Culture I GERM 2P00 course for the Fall D2 term. This is a face-to-face delivery course. The instructor will be responsible for scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, course administration, and working closely with the Chair of Modern Languages, Literatures and Culture. The compensation for a full course is $15,775.20, effective September 1, 2026, for approximately 390 hours. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of German Studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of German at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and German
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International German
  • Evidence of teaching competence
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Chair of Modern Languages, Literatures and Culture
  • First hour of seminar/lab in each course (for 2-hour/week lecture instructors)

  • Responsible for test and exam preparation
  • Student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking
  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
