About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) for the course GERM 1F90 Intermediate German Language. The course includes both lecture and lab components. The mode of delivery for this course will be face to face during the term. Compensation is provided per half or full course, with specific rates effective September 1, 2026. Instructors are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course if the lecture is 2 hours/week.

Requirements

• Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd or MA) in an area of German studies
• Record of sustained successful teaching of German at a University level
• Native or near native fluency in English and German
• Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International German
• Evidence of teaching competence
• Official student and peer evaluations
• Teaching dossier
• References
• Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
• Ability to work within a team
• Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment

Responsibilities

• Designing all tests and exams
• Student assessment
• Prompt and accurate marking
• Incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources
• Responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
• Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
• Proctoring exams
• Active participation in curriculum development
