About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for Intermediate Spanish Language SPAN 1F90 for the Fall/Winter term. This position involves both on-campus and online components. The instructor will be responsible for scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration. The successful candidate will work closely with the Hispanic & Latin American Studies Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD or PhD abd) in an area of Spanish and Latin American Studies (language, literature and culture)
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of Spanish at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and Spanish
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International Spanish
  • Evidence of teaching competence
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation
  • Student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking
  • Experience in computer-based instruction
  • Experience in the incorporation and development of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials, and resources in a blended/online/hybrid course delivery
  • Application of online student tracking systems
  • Competence in the use of web-based course administrative tools designed and supported by the University, as well as Connect, LearnSmart Brightspace and similar eLearning platforms
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students

  • Course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
  • Work closely with the Hispanic & Latin American Studies Program Coordinator
  • First hour of seminar/lab in each course (for instructors employed in a 2-hour/week lecture)
  • Committee marking including on-line activities, mid-term and final exams
  • Individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
